There are more than 55 million people living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia throughout the world. And in the United States alone, more than 16 million people care for family or friends – without pay – who are in various stages of this progressive disease. This can take a significant toll on the family dynamic, but it’s important to know that you’re not alone. There are resources available to you in the healthcare industry to help support your mission to provide the best quality care to your loved ones.
June is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, and Mas Imaging Portable Radiology is a proud supporter of the Alzheimer’s Association and the Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center.
As healthcare providers, we understand that as Alzheimer’s advances through the brain it can lead to disorientation; mood and behavior changes; confusion about events, time and place; unfounded suspicions about caregivers; difficulty walking and behavior changes in addition to memory loss. This can make it difficult to accomplish everyday tasks independently, including using transportation to get to medical appointments, or trusting the transportation services who arrive to pick them up and bring them back home.
Additionally, Alzheimer’s patients often lose track of time. While it may start with not knowing the day or date, it can progress to mistaking the month or even the season. This can make keeping appointments impossible to manage independently.
Often, Alzheimer’s patients are more comfortable staying in the familiarity of their own environment. And this can be easier on their caretakers as well.
This is where Mas Imaging Portable Radiology can help. We can meet the patient where they are, and provide hospital-quality radiology services in the comfort of their own home or care facility in order to reduce the amount of stress to the patient and the caregivers. When a patient needs an ultrasound, x-ray, EKG, echocardiogram or doppler study, we will provide a two-hour appointment window around their convenience, and can bring the equipment to the patients’ room or bedside – wherever they are most comfortable.
All of our technologists have been trained in caring for patients who have dementia or Alzheimer’s in order to ensure the utmost attention and patience are provided to them. Keeping the environment calm is our priority.
